Welcome, Welcome!

Hey there! I’m so glad you stopped by Hayley Michel Photography’s Blog! I’m still adjusting to the blogging world, but mostly I post my most recent photo shoot sneak peeks, as well as my thoughts/commentary that tag along with it! Hope you enjoy some light reading by following my blog! Thanks so much!

I realize I haven’t posted a project in probably three weeks. All I’ve been doing is crocheting like a mad woman. Haven’t been inspired to do anything else. However, if anyone has any project ideas they’d love to do, but simply don’t have the time – send ‘em my way and I’ll see if I can give it a shot!

I typically don’t crochet blankets simply because I like the smaller, faster projects better so I can enjoy my finished product more quickly. You have to be pretty dedicated to finish a project of this magnitude. However, these past few weeks I’ve decided to tackle not only one blanket, but three! Ha. When I get bored with one, I move onto a different one. I like variety! I’m almost finished with all three. Like I said crochet-a-holic. Not ashamed.

This is a full view of one I'm working on. It's almost finished. I think. I haven't decided if I should add on more squares. Right now it's a perfect square all together, so I'm debating on making it more of a rectangle shape.

Each color has a different pattern and texture to it. I love that! The original pattern was free from Lion Brand's website. I simply altered mine a bit.

Still have to add the decorative trim border (that I’m totally going to make up, because I love pretty trim). But I’m pausing for a bit until I officially decide if I like the size yet or not…We shall see…

Happy Crafting!

I don’t know what it is about baby boys these days, but I’m such a sucker for them. I think it’s my nephew’s doing. They’re just such lil’ flirts too! Baby Hayden and I had quite the connection. He just kept giving me all these cute lil’ smirks, winks, and peeks. I swear we were playing a session of peek-a-boo! Ha! With his cute lil’ features and full head of hair, it was hard not to adore him. He seemed rather intelligent too (just like his cousin, Reese), you could just see it in his eyes as he was wide awake through a good portion of the session. I was also excited to try some more dramatically contrasted black and white photos for this session. I rather enjoyed them. And I think they turned out beautifully. Hope you fall in love with this lil’ man like I did!

SUCH a cute lil' smirk. And look at that beautiful head of hair!

Again with the smirking! I swear he was thinking I was playing peek-a-boo with him behind my camera.

Love those lil' toes peeking out.

Just chill-laxin'! Ha!

I love how he's just looking right at his mama.

Love at that adorable face! Is that expression not so cute? It's like he's actually posing.

I think he looks so intelligent in this shot.

I really do think he's secretly telling his dad something...

I have the privilege of meeting so many beautiful people with photography. I mean, seriously. Kaitlyn and Luis are a beautiful couple. Their photos were so easy to take. I hope I did them justice, because they could quite seriously pose for magazines. I was so in love and inspired taking their photos I had a hard time stopping; pretty sure I wore Luis out! I had a difficult time choosing which pictures to post. Some of my most favorite pictures of couples, in general, are when they’re not looking at the camera. I love just capturing them together, interacting, as if I’m not even there. These two were such naturals at showing affection, it just so happened that my most favorites are of just the two of them snuggling. Too cute! Hope you enjoy this lovely couple’s pictures as much as I enjoyed taking them!

Work it! Own it! Such models!

I could totally see this in a magazine for a sunglass ad.

Karan and Avantika actually met in high school in India; however, they didn’t start dating until medical school. Now they have both completed medical school and are working on completing their first year of residency. Sadly though, they didn’t get into the same residency program and Avantika is completing her first year in Pediatrics in New York, while Karan is here in Oklahoma City at the OU Med Center completing his in Neurology. How’s that for the engaged/newlywedded life? These two will be completing their engagement ceremony and wedding ceremony in India with the rest of their family and friends this February. I’m sure their wedding festivities will be beautiful as they’ve discussed all the elaborate details with me! This is definitely why I love photography, meeting new people! I learned so much just within our engagement session (including how little I know about India). Ha. They were a great pair to work with!

Baby Finn was born January 10th at 9 lbs 2 ozs. I think that classifies Jackie now as one tough woman! Whew. When I arrived at Jackie’s and Mike’s house to do baby Finn’s pictures she explained to me he had a rough day all day and she wasn’t quite sure how well he’d to for pictures. However, he did remarkably well. He stayed quite calm majority of the time and stayed asleep as well. He was quite precious. As long as he was warm and had his “hair-dryer” white noise on (from Jackie’s iphone) he was good to go. It cracked me up how well that worked; quite the handy phone app. Hope you love this precious lil’ ones cute baby features as much as I do!

Iphone = The Miracle Worker.

Cute lil' nose and lips. Definitely his most defining features.

I finally got to use this lil' stocking hat. SUPER cute!

I love his lil' hand poking out through the blanket.

Finn was also the first to wear my sock monkey hat. It looked pretty darn cute on him. And just look at those lil' baby hands!

I feel like there's a slight smirk in this one.

Oh. My. Goodness. Is this not the cutest picture you've ever seen?! LOVE all the lil' rolls and wrinkles!

The lovely recently-made mama and papa!

Sweet boy.

Started my 2012 off to a great start with a gorgeous wedding and a beautiful day. You couldn’t have asked for better weather: a cloudless, 60 degree day in January. Perfect. Whitney and Matt’s day seemed to flow seamlessly without a hitch. We even had plenty of time to just sit and relax before the ceremony…that rarely happens! Even all the lil’ ones in the bridal party completed their parts with flying colors. Baby Carrington was sure to look right at the camera as she was passing by on her royal chariot of a wagon all decked out in silk and flowers. The church was beautiful. I loved it. Totally my taste. The entrance was gorgeous, plus I love doors…especially red ones, so I was all set! Hope you enjoy this lil’ taste of Whitney and Matt’s lovely wedding!

I just love doing fun, girlie shots! Ha!

Boys and their naughty jokes...jeez.

This just makes me think of Pride and Prejudice; one of my all-time favorite movie scenes. I loved the cinematography of that scene. SO romantic!

I just adore this girl! She's just chillen with her buds. Ha.

Grace was cracking me up at the wedding. She was purely heart-broken. Her eyes would just fill with tears out of no where. She just so badly wanted to go on the honeymoon. I don't know why Whitney and Matt weren't all for that idea...

Sassy lil' thang!

Gorgeous church, inside and out…

Every girl loves a lil' somethin' from Tiffany's.

No one can resist THIS face!

Bubble machines for the exit. Genius!!!!

Oh my how this lil’ baby Reese is quite the doll. But don’t let her good looks fool you, she’s quite smart as well. This is a true story – we placed her on her belly for a couple of shots and apparently she was NOT havin’ it and she literally did her first roll over. Serious. I saw it with my very own eyes. I now dub her the genius baby. With such advanced development as that, she’s bound to be a smart girl. Ask her dad, he’ll be happy to brag on her. Ha. Reese is a beauty, a cutie, and an easy subject to photograph. Her first photo shoot was a success; she’s headed towards good things! Hope you enjoy this precious girl’s first pics!

She was full of smiles.

Had to take a pic with a lil' piece from her nursery that I love!

My goodness. How can you resist this face?

I'd like to dub this photo: "The Thinker." I told you she was a smart girl.

I love her lil' nose.

This family hadn’t had pictures done together in quite some time; I think around 10 years in fact. And it just so happens that Jarod and his wife, Kamee are being relocated for his job to Papua New Guinea. So what better time than to have a quick get-together to snap some pictures?! This fam was easy-going and fun to take pictures with. Hope you enjoy them!

Who says a Grandma can't be sassy?!

She just has some stunning eyes!

This girl sure loves her uncle!

For those of you that don’t know me or have never been in my house, I have a lot of French/Eiffel Tower decor. It’s a homage to my travels there back in 2009; a trip I will never forget. As well as it serves as a reminder of how much I would like to go back there one day. I loved it. So much art, culture, music, and a variety of people from all over the world. Jeff and I will also be celebrating our 5th wedding anniversary this year, a small triumph in the grand scheme of things; but we’re still pretty excited about! My inspiration for this particular project came from French street signs.

Here's kind of an idea of where my inspiration came from.

I'm not even going to pretend like I free-handed this. I'm terrible at writing. So I printed the letter off the size I wanted, cut them out, and used them as stencils. Worked pretty well. The smaller letters up top were a beast to paint around. Ugh.

I could not have done this without these tools. My brushes could have been in better shape, but I always prefer my flat brushes verses the round ones. And I had to keep switching to a smaller and smaller brush. Plus I like my needle nose fiskar scissors for that detail cutting like those letters.

The finished product.

It was a gorgeous 50 degree December Saturday when these two got married. They chose to have a private elopement ceremony held at the beautiful Overholser Mansion in North Oklahoma City. These two met while actually being neighbors, although they actually work at the same place! They’re both professors at Oklahoma State University. They hit it off so well that Celeste just ended up moving a couple of houses over! They’re a lovely pair and as giddy as two teenagers in love. Their personal vows to each other were a definite indication that these two are just head over heels for each other. Their vows were overflowing with some of the most powerful and romantic statements I’ve ever heard. It was a very emotional day to take part in. Everyone was teary-eyed. (Which everyone included: the bride, the groom, the officiant, and myself). That’s right! I even got to sign the marriage license as a witness. It was very intimate and an honor to be chosen to be a part of it.

If you're looking for a more unique, smaller wedding setting - this is a perfect choice. To have a wedding here it's simply $100 an hour. Most weddings are held outdoors on the lawn near the water fountain. I bet they can accommodate at least 100 guests. Check this place out!

Pretty much everything in the house is the original. Including this stained glass.

Original everything, people - wall furnishings, furniture, and even the hand-painted designs on the walls. The only family that lived in this home was the Overholsers, it was simply passed down a couple of generations then donated to the city with all the furnishings. Quite amazing.

This was the music room. Stunning. I would have loved to have some of the furniture pieces in this home.

Again, just an extremely emotional ceremony.

So cute and flirty all checkin' each other out.
